Senior Indonesian and Chinese military leaders meet in Jakarta

BEIJING, Jan. 12 -- Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Commander of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto, met with General Liu Zhenli, Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) and Member of CPC Central Military Commission, in Jakarta on Jan.9 and Jan. 10 respectively.

The Indonesian side expressed that the cultures of the two countries share similarities and the two peoples share close relationship. The Indonesian side highly values the relationship with China and is grateful to China's support and assistance to Indonesia's development. The relations between the two militaries are developing in good momentum and it is hoped that the two militaries should further strengthen pragmatic cooperation in various fields such as personnel exchanges and joint exercises and training.

General Liu Zhenli stated that China has always viewed the China-Indonesia relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective. The Chinese military is willing to work with the Indonesian military, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, to take the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to create more highlights and achievements in bilateral military cooperation and make greater contributions to regional peace and stability.

Before the meeting, General Liu Zhenli inspected the TNI honor guards at the welcome ceremony held by the Indonesian side.
