BEIJING, April 14 -- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Li Shangfu met with Admiral Choengchai Chomchoengpaet, commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy, in Beijing on the afternoon of April 14, 2023.
General Li Shangfu said thatChina and Thailand are as close as one family with geographical proximity and cultural similarity. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 48 years ago,China-Thailand relationship has stood the test of trials and hardships, and the family-like bond has been strengthened. During President Xi’s visit to Thailand last year, the leaders of the two countries reached an importance consensus on building a more stable, more prosperous and more sustainable China-Thailand community with a shared future, bringing both sides’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new height.
General Li noted that as an important part of bilateral relations, the mil-to-mil relations between China and Thailand enjoy a sound development momentum and have achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation.The cooperation between the two navies enjoys a solid foundation and great potential. The two sides should continue to advance cooperation in relevant fields.
General Li stressed that China is ready to work with Thailand to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, innovate cooperation mechanisms, upgrade the level of cooperation, and make greater contributions to world and regional peace and stability.
Admiral Choengchai Chomchoengpaet thanked China for its support to the development of the Royal Thai Navy. He said that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the friendly relations between the two militaries have become more and more intimate, and cooperation and exchanges in high-level visits, joint exercises, joint training, personnel training and various other fields under the ASEAN framework have been continuously strengthened. The Royal Thai Navy is willing to work with the Chinese Navy to support each other, deepen cooperation, and jointly push bilateral relations between the two navies to a new height.
