Guo Boxiong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), stressed when he was on an inspection tour recently in the troop units stationed in Shanghai that the PLA should firmly bear in mind the basic tenet of serving the people wholeheartedly, keep the inherent political quality of the PLA, boost the all-round progress of army building and effectively implement the historical mission of the PLA in the new century and the new period.

　　Yu Zhengsheng, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC, was also involved in the inspection tour.

　　During the inspection tour, Guo Boxiong visited some officers and men shouldering the construction and duty-performance tasks for the World Expo Garden. At the “Good 8th Company on the Nanjing Road”, Guo Boxiong visited the history hall of the company and held an informal discussion with the officers and men of the company on how to keep and carry forward the fine tradition of arduous struggle under the new situation.

　　Guo Boxiong pointed out that the troop units stationed in Shanghai should earnestly make a success of the security and guard work for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, make due contributions to the successful holding of the World Expo and display the PLA’s good image of a “mighty and civilized force” to the whole society and the world according to the deployment of the Central Committee of the CPC and the CMC.
