UNAMID force commander speaks highly of Chinese peacekeeping engineers

Accompanied by Wang Zhen, commander of the 4th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to Darfur of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, force commander of the UNAMID, is inspecting the officers and men of the Chinese detachment.

  Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, force commander of the African Union / United Nations Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), and Brig. Gen. Gage, commander of the Southern Darfur Theatre of the UNAMID, paid a visit to the 4th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to Darfur of Sudan at 13:50 of September 15, local time.

  After listening to the work briefing of the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment, Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba inspected the Chinese peacekeepers under the company of Lt. Col. Wang Zhen, commander of the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment. He spoke highly of the outstanding achievements obtained by the Chinese engineers and expressed thanks to the Chinese engineers on behalf of Sudanese people for their humanitarian aid.

  Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba pointed out that the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment was a major force of the UNAMID. He believed that the detachment was sure to accomplish all the tasks entrusted by the UN on schedule.

  The 315-member Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to Darfur of Sudan mainly comes from the Jinan Military Area Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It is to perform an 8-month-long peacekeeping mission in Darfur. As the only engineer detachment of the UN stationed in Darfur, the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment shoulders such tasks as construction of roads, bridges, aprons and defense works, water source exploration, well drilling and construction of water-getting supporting facilities as well as organizing guard task within its cantonment.
