Chinese naval escort taskforce complete visit to Tanzania

  DAR ES SALAAM, January 3 (ChinaMil) -- The amphibious dock landing ship “Jinggangshan” and the guided missile frigate “Hengshui” of the 15th escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLAN) completed their 4-day-long goodwill visit to Tanzania and left the Port of Dar Es Salaam of Tanzania on January 1, 2014 at 16:00 local time.

  The Tanzanian side held a grand farewell ceremony at the pier. About 200 people including Lv Youqing, Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, Commodore Laswe, commander of the Tanzanian Navy, representatives of local overseas Chinese and Chinese nationals, and staff members of the China-funded institutions in Tanzania as well as officers and men of the Tanzanian Navy saw the escort taskforce off at the pier.

  During its visit, the escort taskforce was warmly received by various sides of Tanzania. Rear Adm. Jiang Zhonghua, commander of the 15th Chinese naval escort taskforce, paid official calls on commander of the Tanzania People’s Defense Force (TPDF) and commander of the Tanzanian Navy, and visited naval base of the Tanzanian Navy.

  The opening day activity was held both on the amphibious dock landing ship “Jinggangshan” and the guided missile frigate “Hengshui”, and more than 1,000 people including officers and men of the Tanzanian military and local overseas Chinese and Chinese nationals visited the two warships.

  Commander of the TPDF, commander of the Tanzanian Navy and representatives of the Tanzanian military attended the deck reception held by the escort taskforce on the amphibious dock landing ship “Jinggangshan”.

  In addition, Chinese naval officers and men also exchanged experience with their Tanzanian counterparts on the maintenance of warship equipment. And the special operation members of the Chinese side, together with the marine corps of the Tanzanian Navy, demonstrated military skills and drilled on some training subjects.

  Tanzania was the first country visited by the 15th taskforce after its naval escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast. Next, the 15th taskforce will pay friendly visits to Kenya and Sri Lanka.
