ZHOUSHAN, March 13 (ChinaMil) -- The comprehensive supply ship “Qiandaohu” under the East China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLAN) left a naval port in Zhoushan city of east China’s Zhejiang province at 08:00 of March 12, 2014 for the Gulf of Thailand to replenish the ships searching and rescuing the missing plane of Malaysia Airlines.
After receiving the order, the officers and men of the comprehensive supply ship “Qiandaohu” completed all the preparations within 24 hours before setting sail. At the same time, a diving team, a target measuring and sweeping team and a medical team, equipped with two high-speed boats, were established, so as to ensure that the maritime rescue mission can be performed immediately when necessary.
The comprehensive supply ship “Qiandaohu”, commissioned to a combat support warship flotilla under the East China Sea Fleet of the PLAN in April 2004, is a home-made ocean-going comprehensive supply ship which can carry out multi-way replenishments including lateral and stern replenishments during navigation, moored replenishment and helicopter vertical replenishment for various types of warships such as the active-duty destroyers and frigates of the PLAN, and possesses the all-platform, full-time and whole sea-area comprehensive support capabilities.
It is reported that the comprehensive supply ship “Qiandaohu” will arrive at the replenishment standby zone in the sea area near the Gulf of Thailand at 04:30 before dawn on March 17, 2014 and begin to replenish the ships performing missions of searching and rescuing the missing plane of Malaysia Airlines, according to sources.
