EAST PACIFIC OCEAN, August 11 (ChinaMil) -- The visiting Chinese naval taskforce, the accompanying American guided missile cruiser "USS Lake Champlain" and Littoral Combat Ship "USS Independence", conducted dialogue, maneuver and other drills in terms of the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) on their way to San Diego on the morning of August 8, 2014.

Shen Jinlong, commanding officer of the visiting Chinese naval taskforce, told the reporter that when the Chinese naval taskforce sailed toward San Diego, the American navy assigned two accompanying naval vessels to carry out joint drills in terms of the CUES with us. This is a concrete practice in implementing the consensus reached by the high-level leaders of the two navies.

The joint drills indicate that the CUES provides an institutional guarantee and guideline to reduce misunderstanding and misjudgment in peacetime and avoid maritime and air accidents, playing a positive role in safeguarding regional security and stability.
