Xu Qiliang meets with Cyprus defense minister

       BEIJING, September 12 (ChinaMil) -- Xu Qiliang, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), met with Christoforos Fokaides, the visiting minister of the Ministry of Defense of Cyprus, in Beijing on the afternoon of September 11, 2014.

  Xu Qiliang said that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Cyprus, the bilateral relations have been maintaining a sound momentum of development.

  Since the beginning of the new century, the two countries have been keeping frequent high-level contacts, deepening political mutual trust and carrying out fruitful and effective exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

  In recent years, the two militaries of China and Cyprus have been constantly strengthening their exchanges and cooperation, keeping their high-level contacts and gradually starting their cooperation in the professional fields.

  The Chinese side is willing to work with the Cyprus side to enhance understanding and mutual trust, so as to push forward the further development of the relations between the two militaries.

  Fokaides said that the Cyprus side firmly adheres to the one-China policy and hopes to further push forward cooperation between the two countries in fields including energy, economy, trade and tourism.

  The Cyprus side attaches importance to developing relations between the two militaries and is willing to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in fields such as anti-terrorism and humanitarian rescue, so as to constantly strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries and the two militaries.

  Personnel including Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), Ci Guowei, deputy director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense of the PRC, and Agis Loizou, Cyprus ambassador to China, attended the meeting.
