BEIJING, October 27 (ChinaMil) -- The first batch of supplies for Liberia's fight against the Ebola outbreak, sponsored by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, arrived by air at Monrovia, Liberia's capital, at 16:18 of October 26, 2014, Beijing time.
These supplies include mobile house building materials, medical beds, information equipment and water purification equipment with a total weight of 70 tons. These supplies will be used for the construction of Liberian Ebola Treatment Center.
The second batch of construction supplies, totaling 78 tons, has departed from the Tianjin Port on the evening of October 25. Other supplies including medicine, office furniture and living materials will be shipped subsequently.
Approved by China's State Council and Central Military Commission, the PLA will build the Ebola Treatment Center for Liberia in its capital Monrovia. The 100-bed treatment center is another international rescue operation conducted by the PLA's medical service force.
The person in charge of the Health Department of the PLA General Logistics Department (GLD) said that the construction of the treatment center will draw on the experience of Beijing's fight against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Meanwhile, the center will be built strictly in accordance with infectious disease hospital construction requirements, and with optimized treatment process, functions and facility layout. Based on treatment programs of the World Health Organization, the treatment center will hospitalize patients with suspected Ebola virus and carry out treatment for Ebola patients.
