BEIJING, October 27 (ChinaMil) -- General Wu Changde, deputy director of the General Political Department (GPD) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), met with Ms Beerli, the visiting executive vice-chairwoman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Beijing on the afternoon of October 24, 2014.
Wu Changde said that the Red Cross movement is a symbol of the progress of human civilization, and the ICRC is one of the most influential international organizations. The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) always pursues revolutionary humanitarianism, and takes a number of measures to promote the Law of Armed Conflict.
Wu stressed that the PLA and the ICRC have maintained a good cooperation relationship for a long time. The two sides successfully held the "Advanced Seminar for International Rules on Military Operations" in Xi'an this year, which has led to closer exchanges. Hopefully, this can be taken as an opportunity to keep pushing forward the friendly and cooperative relationship between both sides.
Ms. Beerli expressed thanks to China for its support to the ICRC. She said that the ICRC is willing to continue to deepen its cooperation with the PLA so that the Law of Armed Conflict can be promoted in a more solid and effective way.
