BEIJING, November 4 (ChinaMil) -- The curtain of the 10th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition will be raised in Zhuhai, a coastal city in south China's Guangdong province, on November 11, 2014.
"Pterosaur", the “Star” of China’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) industry, will participate in the air show in a group of three.
The "Pterosaur" represents the highest R&D level of Chinese unmanned attack aircraft.
Its appearance at the Zhuhai air show sends a signal that China begins to put its steps into the international UAV market.
Actually, the "Pterosaur" had debuted in the "Peace Mission -2014" joint anti-terror exercise organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from August 24 to 29, after it’s commissioned to the PLA.
In the exercise, a "Pterosaur" of the Chinese Air Force conducted reconnaissance over a high land and launched an air-to-ground missile at an “enemy” command vehicle.
The "Pterosaur" is the most tailored for counter-terror missions as the UAV flies at a medium altitude and at a low speed with long duration and abilities in reconnaissance and strike.
The "Pterosaur" can reach the target area 300 km away within 2 hours and perform 12-hour continuous monitoring before returning to the base in 2 hours.
Two to three "Pterosaur" UAVs will achieve the 24-hour non-stop surveillance on the target area.
According to domestic media reports, China has been considering the export of "Pterosaur".
Compared with the price of the U.S. UAV, "Pterosaur" is much cheaper. The price of the U.S. MQ-9 is 30 times higher than that of the "Pterosaur".
In regard to the performance-price ratios (PPR), which is the top concern for buyers of fighters, the performance-price ratio of the UAV dominates the buyers’ purchase decision.
In recent years, conflicts and terrorist activities have been rampant in parts of Middle East and Africa. For the Third World countries that have limited financial resources, using the existing equipment to search and combat terrorist forces in the vast territories has become quite a hard job.
Therefore, the "Pterosaur" UAV, with its excellent quality and reasonable price, will become one of the high-quality alternatives for the Third World countries.
The world is witnessing the year-on-year advance in the design level and manufacture capacity of China’s UAVs.
As a result of the development of the domestic UAV industry in recent years, the "Pterosaur" and the "Rainbow" UAVs as well as the other made-in-China UAVs will have their places in the international UAV market.
