BEIJING, March 14 (ChinaMil) -- Fan Changlong, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), made an emergency phone call with Min Aung Hlaing, commander-in-chief of Myanmar's Defense Services, on the afternoon of March 14, after four Chinese people were killed by a bomb dropped by a Myanmar warplane in China's southwestern Yunnan Province on Friday afternoon.
Fan said that Myanmar’s warplanes have flown across China-Myanmar border recently for several times, and some shells and bombs from Myanmar’s military have fallen into China’s territory and resulted in civilian casualties and property losses of the Chinese side. Fan emphasized that the Chinese people react strongly to such issue.
Fan pointed out that the Myanmar side must realize the seriousness of the issue and treat the matter seriously. Fan urged the Myanmar side to punish the perpetrator severely, apologize to and compensate the bereaved families, and inform the Chinese side of the result.
Fan also made clear requirements that Myanmar's top military leaders should strictly control and restrain their troops and absolutely prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Otherwise, China’s military will take decisive measures to protect the safety of the Chinese people's lives and properties, Fan added.
Min Aung Hlaing expressed that the Myanmar side understood the feelings of the Chinese side. He said the Myanmar side will send people to seriously investigate the case together with the Chinese side as soon as possible, solve the problem properly and hold relevant people accountable. The Myanmar’s military is willing to work with China’s military to promote the friendly cooperation between the two militaries, Min Aung Hlaing said.
Fan Changlong stressed that he hopes the Myanmar side can, proceeding from maintaining the relations between the two countries and the two militaries, properly solve the problem and jointly safeguard the security and stability in the border areas between China and Myanmar.
