QINGDAO, Aug. 9 (ChinaMil) --The guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG-65) of the United States Pacific Fleet (USPACFLT), led by its commanding officer Cmdr. Justin L. Harts, arrived at a naval port of the North China Sea Fleet under the PLA Navy in Qingdao City of east China’s Shandong Province on the morning of August 8 to kick off its 5-day visit to Qingdao.
As the accompanying ship, the guided-missile frigate Daqing of the North China Sea Fleet welcomed and guided the USS Benfold with maritime etiquette.
Adm. Scott Swift, commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, arrived in Qingdao by charter plane on the same day to participate in the visiting activities of the USS Benfold.
The North China Sea Fleet held a ceremony at the pier to welcome the USS Benfold and its 285 naval personnel aboard. It's the first time for the USS Benfold to visit Qingdao.
During the visit, the Chinese and U.S. sailors will visit each other's warships and conduct exchange activities including football match, basketball match and tug-of-war, etc,.
The principal officers of the USS Benfold will also visit scenic spots in Qingdao, including Zhanqiao Landing Stage, May Fourth Square, Qingdao Municipal Museum and Qingdao Beer Museum.
