BAMAKO, August 12 (ChinaMil) -- General Tieman Hubert Coulibaly, defense minister of the Republic of Mali, met with Rear Admiral Guan Youfei, director of the Office for International Military Cooperation under China's Central Military Commission (CMC), in Bamako, capital of Mali on August 12, 2016, local time.
A Chinese military foreign affairs delegation headed by Guan Youfei is paying a visit to Mali.
Coulibaly welcomed the visiting Chinese PLA foreign affairs delegation. During his successful visit to China last year, he reached important consensuses with Chinese military leaders on strengthening military-to-military exchange and cooperation between the two countries, Coulibaly said.
Coulibaly expressed his gratitude for Chinese PLA’s many-year support for Malian Armed Forces and believed that the two militaries will continue to carry out good cooperation in the future.
Guan Youfei said that Mali is China’s good brother, good friend and good partner in Africa. In recent years, the two countries have carried out good cooperation in such fields as politics, economics and trade as well as defense, Guan continued.
Chinese side appreciates Malian military’s assistance after the Chinese peacekeeping detachment suffered a terrorist attack. Chinese military will further deepen the military-to-military cooperation, continue to dispatch peacekeeping troops to Mali and firmly support Mali’s peace and reconciliation process, Guan added. The two sides also reached consensuses on strengthening personnel training and carrying out communications on peacekeeping operations.
Before their meeting, Guan Youfei held talks with Maj. Gen. Didier Dacko, chief of general staff of the Malian Armed Forces. The Chinese military foreign affairs delegation carried out working exchanges with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and the European Union Military Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali) in August 12.
Members of the delegation also visited Chinese military communication experts working in Mali and representatives of UN peacekeepers from China on August 12, local time.
