Chinese warships participating in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2016 multinational maritime exercise executed a maritime blockade and interception drill in waters near Hawaii, on July 19, 2016. In this drill, the guided-missile destroyer Xi'an (Hull Number 153) simulated a suspicious merchant ship and was intercepted by the guided-missile destroyer Hengshui (Hull Number 572).
