
China International Search and Rescue Team, CISAR, was jointly founded by China Earthquake Administration, an engineering troop unit of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the General Hospital of Armed Police Force (APF) on April 27, 2001. The CISAR is equipped with advanced devices and instruments for life detection, dismantling and medical rescue. With as many as 23,400-plus sets of equipment in 360-odd types under 8 categories, more than 20 search dogs and over 20 vehicles under its control, CISAR is a professional military-civilian earthquake relief force which has played an significant role both at home and abroad in case of an earthquake or a tsunami. It has reaped wave after wave of accolades from the international society and made great contributions to Chinese diplomacy in its special way.
