Overseas Air Forces send condolences for fallen Chinese female pilot

BEIJING, November 16 (ChinaMil) -- For days, the Air Forces of New Zealand, Italy, Pakistan and Britain sent letters or telegrams to the foreign affairs department of the Chinese PLA Air Force to express their condolences for the loss of Yu Xu, a female J-10 fighter jet pilot of the PLA Air Force's 81 Aerobatic Team, who died in an accident during a routine flight training on Nov. 12.


They felt sorry for the Chinese PLA Air Force for losing such an excellent female pilot, and also sent their regards to her families.


The Red Arrows Aerobatic Team of Britain Royal Air Force expressed their sorrow for the loss of Yu Xu on a social media platform. Both the Red Arrows and the 81 Acrobatic Teams performed at the 11th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China 2016) in Zhuhai earlier this month.


Wing Commander Martin Higgins, commanding officer of the Red Arrows Aerobatic Team , said that although the two aerobatic teams are remote from each other, they share the same aspiration for excellence and admiration of enlightening next generations .


Flight Lieutenant Yu Xu is a role model in practicing those values and worth learning from by future pilots, Higgins said.


The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) sent a letter to the Chinese PLA Air Force, expressing their condolences for the loss of Yu Xu.


As a member of the PLA Air Force's 81 Aerobatic Team, Yu Xu participated in the acrobatic performance at the closing ceremony of the Falcon Strike 2015 China-Thailand Air Force Joint Training held in Thailand in November 2015. Their performance was well received by the Thai Air Force and the local people.


Senior colonel Shen Jinke, spokesperson of the Chinese PLA Air Force, commented that Yu Xu was an outstanding representative of Chinese Air Force's female pilots who love flying and pursue excellence.


The Chinese PLA Air Force appreciates the unconditional support and loving care by all sectors of society and international friends, and will stay true to its mission and obligation of safeguarding national security and maintaining world peace, Shen said.
