ZHOUSHAN, Dec. 30 (ChinaMil) -- The East China Sea Fleet of the Chinese PLA Navy held a commissioning ceremony for the guided-missile frigate Binzhou (Hull 515) at a naval port in Zhoushan, east China’s Zhejiang Province, on December 29, 2016.
With the hull number 515, the guided-missile frigate Binzhou is 140 meters long and 14 meters wide with a full displacement of over 4, 000 tons. The frigate is equipped with multiple sets of advanced weapon systems.
The frigate can attack surface warships and submarines alone or together with other forces of the PLA Navy. It also has strong capabilities of guard, detection and combat.
This type of guided-missile frigate is the PLA Navy's new generation main battle ship type. This type of frigates has completed a series of major military and diplomatic missions including the naval escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia, evacuation of Chinese citizens from Libya, joint military exercises and global visits, earning widespread praise.
