Chinese naval fleet starts friendly visit to Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY, May 8 (ChinaMil) -- A Chinese naval fleet arrived in Ho Chi Minh City for a four-day friendly visit to Vietnam on May 6, 2017.


At 10:00 (0300 GMT) on Saturday morning, the guided-missile destroyer Changchun and the guided-missile frigate Jingzhou, arrived at the Saigon Port in Ho Chi Minh City.


The Vietnamese navy held a welcoming ceremony at the dock for the arrival of the Chinese naval fleet.


The two Chinese warships were warmly welcomed by over 300 people including representatives of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry and navy, leaders from the Foreign Affairs Office of Ho Chi Minh City, Chinese ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong, as well as representatives of Chinese-funded institutions, overseas Chinese and students studying in Vietnam.


After the ceremony, representatives of Vietnamese navy, Chinese embassy and consulate in Vietnam, Chinese enterprises, Chinese students studying in Vietnam and overseas Chinese in Vietnam visited the missile destroyer Changchun.


Rear Admiral Shen Hao, commanding officer of the Chinese navy fleet, will meet with leaders of Vietnamese 2nd Naval Region and the 7th Military Region as well as Ho Chi Minh City government officials.


The two sides will hold exchange activities including a dock reception to be held by the visiting Chinese naval fleet, cultural and sports events attended by sailors of the two navies.
