BEIJING, August 1 (ChinaMil) -- The China-Russia "Joint Sea 2017" naval exercise officially kicked off in Kaliningrad, Russia on July 22. The annual Joint Sea naval exercise between China and Russia is conducive to protection of world peace and regional stability jointly by the two countries.

In retrospection of the past years, from international humanitarian rescue and evacuation of overseas Chinese nationals, from joint military exercise to participating in international military cooperation, the Chinese armed forces vividly illustrates what obligations a responsible major country should undertake with the contributions it has made to the preservation of world peace.

In face of increasingly complicated security threats and challenges, joint anti-terrorism military exercises demonstrate China's firm resolve and strong capability of preserving peace.

On June 15, 2001, a new regional organization was given birth in Shanghai. The heads of state of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan held a summit in Shanghai on the day, at which they jointly issued the Declaration on the Establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization , announcing the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to the whole world. A day earlier, the defense ministers of the six countries had gathered in Shanghai and signed a Joint Communiqué, which stated that a new model of cooperation among the defense ministries of SCO member states will help maintain peace, stability and security in the region.

The strategic environment and security landscape are changing, so are security threats and challenges, which are becoming more diverse, sensitive and complex. Conducting dialogue and cooperation and strengthening coordination to jointly fight against violent terrorist forces, ethnic separatist forces and religious extremist forces (the three forces) is a common subject for the armed forces of SCO member states, which makes it necessary for them to regularly carry out joint anti-terrorism exercises. It's not the only option, but an important and practical one.
