Chinese Army teams top rivals in first phase contests of IAG 2017

KORLA, Aug. 8(ChinaMil) -- Teams sent by the Chinese PLA Army have pocketed the first place in the first phase competitions of the Suvorov Attack, Clear Sky, Safe Environment and Gunsmith Master contests of the International Army Games (IAG) 2017 held in Korla of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

From July 31 to August 4, twenty-three teams from Angola, Belarus, China, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Zimbabwe completed successively the first phase competitions of the Suvorov Attack, Clear Sky, Safe Environment and Gunsmith Master contests, Colonel Tan Yingshuai, spokesperson of the Chinese PLA Army, said at a press briefing on Tuesday evening.

The individual race of the Suvorov Attack was held on July 31 and August 4. Teams from China, Angola, Iran, Russia, Venezuela and Zimbabwe participated in the race. The Chinese team ranked the first, the Russian team and the Iranian team ranked the second and the third respectively.

The "mastery" race of the Clear Sky kicked off on August 1. Seven teams from China, Belarus, Egypt, Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan and Venezuela competed in the race. The first three places of the event were grabbed by the teams from China, Belarus and Uzbekistan.

The individual race of the Safe Environment started on August 2. China, Belarus, Egypt, Iran and Russia participated in the race. The Chinese team took the first and the second places, the Russian team won the third.

Maintenance platoons from China, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan participated in the howitzer maintenance race of the Gunsmith Master contest on August 3. The Chinese team ranked the first, which was followed by the Kazakhstan team, and the Russian team took the third place.

The competitions in the second phase of the four events are taking place in Korla, and all competitions will come to an end on August 12, Said Tan.
