COLOMBO, August 8 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's hospital ship Peace Ark, who is on the "Harmonious Mission-2017" task, successfully held a joint international humanitarian medical rescue drill with the Sri Lanka Navy at the Colombo Port on the afternoon of August 8, local time.

A 35-year-old Sri Lanka naval orthopedic surgeon participated in the drill and is impressed by the advanced medical equipment and health care professional level of the hospital ship Peace Ark: "It is our common mission to save life. I have learned a lot from the Chinese Navy counterparts during the drill. It is quite a rewarding experience.”

More than 150 people including Sri Lanka Army medical personnel, cadets of the Medical School in General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU) as well as local medical students watched the drill.

During the three-day visit to Sri Lanka, the hospital ship Peace Ark also sent a 15-member medical expert team to carry out joint rounds of wards at the Sri Lanka Navy Hospital with Sri Lanka naval medical personnel.

The two navies also conducted such activities as lectures on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, practical training, bi-directional medical exchanges and so on.

"The joint drill was not planned in advance and it embodies the deepening exchanges and cooperation between the two navies," said Rear Admiral Guan Bailin, deputy chief of staff of the PLA Navy's East China Sea Fleet and commanding officer of the "Harmonious Mission-2017".

Guan met with Rear Admiral L Ekanayake, Director General of Health Service of the Sri Lanka Navy, aboard the Peace Ark before the drill. The two sides reached agreements and jointly directed the drill.

Ekanayake said that the Chinese PLA Navy's hospital ship Peace Ark not only sent free medical services to the local people and military, more importantly, it brought technology and friendship to the Sri Lanka Navy.
