BAKU, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A group of 50 Azerbaijani soldiers, who are serving under the NATO's Resolute Support mission, has departed for Afghanistan on a rotating basis, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
Azerbaijan provides essential support for supplies to NATO mission contingent deployed in Afghanistan by opening its air space for NATO and providing access to facilities.
Azerbaijani soldiers have been serving in Afghanistan under the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) along with NATO troops since November, 2002.
Currently, a total of 90 Azerbaijani servicemen participate in NATO's Resolute Support mission.
Azerbaijan also allows NATO to carry its non-combat cargo for mission in Afghanistan via Azerbaijan airspace and use its airports.
About 40 percent of all NATO cargo passes through Baku on the way to Afghanistan.
