ALFASHIR, Jan. 26 (ChinaMil) -- China's peacekeeping helicopter detachment to Sudan received and passed the first combat readiness inspection in 2018 conducted by the African Union/United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) on Jan 22.
The UNAMID inspection team came to the camp area of the detachment and checked the parking lot, the munitions container zone and the Level I hospital, and visited the combat operation room.
The inspection team had careful examination of the detachment's emergency response schemes and watched videos of emergency training exercises.
Also on Monday morning, upon request of the UNAMID, the detachment sent two helicopters to perform long-range transport task. The two helicopters took off from the Al Fashir Airport at 10 a.m. heading for Ed Daein in the Sector East and Nyala in the Sector South respectively and came back safely after five hours of flight.
At the same time, at the Al Fashir Airport, the maintenance crew of the detachment conducted periodic maintenance on the helicopters on standby, which is a must for all the helicopters of the detachment after every 500 flight hours.
Since performing the first flight task in its mission area in early November last year, the Chinese peacekeeping helicopter detachment has accumulated 241 hours and 16 minutes of safe flight with 207 sorties, transporting 1,735 personnel and nearly 80 tons of supplies.
The detachment consists of 140 peacekeepers and 4 Mi-171 medium multi-purpose helicopters from an aviation brigade under the PLA Army's 81st Combined Corps. It is mainly responsible for air patrols, air lift of peacekeeping troops, personnel search and evacuation, logistics supply transportation and other support tasks.
