Chinese defense chief conducts border defense inspection in Xinjiang

URUMQI, Jan.28 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan recently paid a border defense inspection tour in Xinjiang.

Gen. Chang came to boarder troop units, frontier check points, duty points and border ports to get the first-hand information about border management and control, frontier defense infrastructure development. Chang also held meetings to listen to opinions and suggestions on the cooperation among the military, local governments, police and people on jointly building a consolidated border defense.

Chang pointed out that the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core attaches much importance to Xinjiang and from an overall strategic perspective, has made a general objective of safeguarding long-term peace and stability in Xinjiang.

Strengthening frontier defense construction and border management and control is an important task for achieving this general objective, Chang said.

Chang stressed that it is of vital importance to profoundly understand the strategic intentions of the CPC Central Committee and President Xi, fully recognize the complicated and severe situation China's national security is confronted with, and honestly enhance the sense of urgency and sense of responsibility in performing the mission of safeguarding border stability and security.
