BEIJING, Feb. 6 (ChinaMil) -- "Such media reports are not true," said the Information Office of China's Ministry of National Defense (MND) on Feb. 5 in responding to the media report by The Chosun Ilbo of the Republic of Korea (ROK) that "the Chinese army sent more missile defense troops to the Yalu River and the Tumen River ".

The Chosun Ilbo reported on Feb. 5 that the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) deployed more missile defense troops along the border between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in response to emergencies on the Korean Peninsula.

The report also quoted a senior DPRK source in China saying that the Chinese military has been installing a missile interception base in Helong City, on the west side of Longjing City of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in northeastern China's Jilin Province, since the end of 2017 after deploying a tank division there.

The report quoted another source to the effect that the Chinese PLA is deploying missiles defense batteries near the DPRK reservoirs and border areas near the Yalu River and the Tumen River.

The report then went on to say that the actions taken by the Chinese military seem to be intended to prevent the reservoirs from being destroyed by missiles or air strikes during a possible war.

The Information Office of China's MND responded on Monday that "such media reports are not true".

"When President Xi visited the U.S. in 2015, he said that it is always the right time to do what is right", Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's MND, said in a press conference in January, 2018, adding that "we hope that the tension will be eased and peace and stability will be secured on the Korean Peninsula.”
