8 militants killed in W. Afghanistan

FARAH, Afghanistan, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least eight militants were killed after clash erupted between security forces and Taliban militants in Shibkoh district of Afghanistan's western Farah province on Thursday night, said a statement of the Interior Ministry released here on Friday.

According to the statement, the Taliban militants attacked a checkpoint in Dozak area of Shibkoh district late on Thursday night and police returned fire.

The exchange of fire lasted for a while, forcing militants to flee after leaving eight bodies behind.

No police personnel sustained hurt in the fighting, the statement asserted.

Taliban militants who have been pushing to overrun Farah's provincial capital the Farah city are yet to make comment.
