VIENNA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN nuclear watchdog, on Monday warned that if the Iranian nuclear deal failed, it could be very negative for the nuclear inspection regime and multilateralism.
Speaking to a board meeting in Vienna, IAEA chief Yukiya Amano said Iran is now cooperating with his team monitoring Tehran's implementation of the nuclear deal which was agreed in 2015 summer.
However, the chief of the UN nuclear agency noted if the Iran nuclear deal were to fail, "it would be a great loss for nuclear verification and for multilateralism."
U.S. President Donald Trump has time and again expressed dissatisfaction over the deal made during his predecessor's term, while Iran has shot back, saying it did not want any more changes in the deal.
The historic agreement involved Iran scaling back its nuclear plans to gain sanctions relief from western states.
However, Iranian ballistic missile program, viewed by some western states as connected to Tehran's nuclear capability, was not included in the deal.
France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian visited Iran on Monday to affirm European support for the nuclear deal.
