WAU, SOUTH SUDAN, March 22 (ChinaMil) --The 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to Southern Sudan (Wau) held a ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the completion of the Kuacjok-Wau-Tonj main-supply route (MSR) maintenance project.

Governor of Wau State Angelo Taban Biajo attended the ceremony and unveiled the nameplate of the road.

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) uses the Kuacjok-Wau-Tonj MSR to transport logistics supplies and humanitarian assistance material. The road is also the main traffic route in South Sudan Due to war damage, rain erosion and poor maintenance, some parts of the road are gully-crossed and it was a big headache for vehicles to pass through these bumpy sections of the road. The normal transportation along the Kuacjok-Wau-Tonj MSR was seriously affected by the unfavorable road condition.

The Kuacjok-Wau-Tonj MSR is 218 km in length. Chinese peacekeeping engineers conducted the road maintenance operation simultaneously from Wau, Kuacjok and Rumbek involving a total of 3,679 person-time engineers, who braved the high temperature of 50 degree centigrade and worked about 7 hours each day on average.

After four consecutive months of hard work, the Kuacjok-Wau-Tonj MSR renovation project was successfully connected. "China Quality" and "China Standard" once again won the praise of local people.

Angelo Taban Biajo, governor of Wau State, spoke highly of the Chinese engineers. “This project has been done very well, I thank you all on behalf of the people of Wau,” he said at the completion ceremony.

Sun Shijian, commander of the 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment, said that Chinese engineers will complete more tasks with higher standards and better technologies to bring more benefits to the people of South Sudan.
