Maj. Gen. Cai Yongzhong appointed political commissar of PLA HK Garrison

BEIJING, May 16 (ChinaMil) -- The Information Office of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison released news on the appointment of the new political commissar of the Garrison on Tuesday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), recently signed an order appointing Major General Cai Yongzhong, deputy political commissar of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, as political commissar of the Garrison.

Vice Admiral Yuan Yubai, commander of the PLA Southern Theater Command, announced the order at the PLA Hong Kong Garrison on May 15.

Assuming the new post, he will work together with Lieut. Gen. Tan Benhong, commander of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, to lead the Garrison troops to implement Chairman Xi's thought of building a strong military in an all-round way, train hard and perform well the defense duties stipulated in the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China and the Law of the People's Republic of China on Garrisoning the Hong Kong SAR, resolutely safeguard the national sovereignty, security and development interests, and defend Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, Maj. Gen. Cai said in the news release.

As deputy political commissar of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison in the past three years, he has had deeper understanding of the important position and role of Hong Kong in the national security and development of China and the strong vitality of the great policy of "One Country, Two Systems", Maj. Gen. Cai said. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Hong Kong SAR government and Hong Kong citizens for their support to the PLA Hong Kong Garrison.
