SANAA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A suspected U.S. drone strike killed four alleged al-Qaida members in Yemen's central province of Marib, a provincial security official said on Monday.
The strike took place on Sunday, destroying a small house inside a farm in al-Rawda district and killing four men, the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The U.S. military has carried out airstrikes against al-Qaida fighters across Yemen since U.S. President Donald Trump approved expanded military operations against the group.
On May 15, a U.S. drone strike hit a vehicle in Yemen's southeastern province of Shabwa, killing four al-Qaida operatives, according to local security officials.
The al-Qaida network, mostly operating in Yemen's eastern and southern provinces, is responsible for many high-profile attacks against security forces in the war-torn country.
The Yemen-based al-Qaida branch, seen by the U.S. as the global terror network's most dangerous branch, has exploited years of deadly conflicts between Yemen's government and Houthi rebels to expand its presence, especially in southeastern provinces.
