LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The 2018 LA Fleet Week was held in San Pedro at the Port of Los Angeles in Southern California from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.

As the Southern California's newest end-of-summer tradition, LA Fleet Week is an annual, multi-day event celebrating the country's sea services over the Labor Day Weekend.

"We're very honored to have five ships in port this year, including a frigate from the Royal Canadian Navy, we also have a Coast Guard cutter from the United States Coast Guard, and we have three U.S. navy active ships also in port," said Arley M. Baker, Deputy Executive Director of the Communications Department of the Port of Los Angeles.

The three U.S. navy ships are USS DEWEY (DDG105), USS SCOUT (MCM-8) and USS MANCHESTER (LCS14). Visitors can enjoy public ship tours, military displays as well as equipment demonstrations.

It is the third LA Fleet Week event and has attracted more than 250,000 people to the LA Waterfront in San Pedro.

According to Baker, the event has received many positive feedbacks from the local community.

"It's been an opportunity for people all over southern California to come back and visit San Pedro or visit the area for the first time, we have a lot of different attractions, so it's been a very good opportunity for the local economy," Baker told Xinhua.

This year's LA Fleet Week is organized by the LA Fleet Week Foundation and is in partnership with the Port of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles.
