China has voiced "strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition" to US arms sales to Taiwan and urged the US to cancel the plan, stressing that the determination of the Chinese military to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering.

Geng Shuang, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said on Tuesday that the US's move is a serious violation of international law, the basic norms of international relations and the three joint communiques between China and the US.

The sales infringe on China's sovereignty and security interests, he said, stressing that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

China urges the US to keep its promises made in the three joint communiques, abolish its plan of arms sales to Taiwan and stop military communications with Taiwan, Geng said.

The US actions are interference in China's internal affairs and damages China's sovereignty and security interests, said Ren Guoqiang, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, adding that the Chinese military has made "solemn representations" to the US.

Ren made the remarks on Tuesday stressing that the one-China policy is the political basis for Sino-US relations.

He said that the US practices have seriously damaged Sino-US relations as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.

We strongly urge the US to immediately revoke the arms sales to Taiwan so as to avoid serious damages to China-US relations and relations between the two militaries, Ren said.

The Pentagon said on Monday that the US State Department has approved the sale to Taiwan of spare parts for F-16 fighter planes, other military aircraft, aircraft systems and subsystems, and other related elements of logistics and program support, worth up to 330 million US dollars.
