ADEN, Yemen, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Airstrikes launched by the Saudi Arabia-led coalition killed several mid-level Houthi commanders and destroyed their operations room in Yemen's port city of Hodeidah on Friday, a military official told Xinhua.

The F-16 fighter jets of the Saudi-led coalition carried out a number of airstrikes and destroyed an underground Houthi operations room in Hodeidah where some Houthi leaders were meeting, the local military source said on condition of anonymity.

"According to the initial information coming from the bombing site, a number of militants including field commanders were among the killed inside the operations room under Hodeidah's airport," the source said.

Hodeidah is the single most important point of entry for food and basic supplies to Yemen's northern provinces controlled by Houthis, including the capital Sanaa.

The Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia have repeatedly accused Houthi rebels of using Hodeidah's port to smuggle Iranian weapons. Both the Houthis and Iran have denied the accusation.

The Arab coalition started to intervene in Yemen's conflict in March 2015 to roll back the Houthi rebels and support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi who was forced into exile by the Houthi rebels.
