Chinese defense minister meets senior military officers from Myanmar, Thailand

BEIJING, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe on Friday met with Myanmar's Defense Services Deputy Commander-in-Chief Soe Win and the Royal Thai Navy commander Adm Luechai Ruddit respectively in Beijing.

While meeting with Soe Win, Wei said that "no matter how the circumstances may evolve, the China-Myanmar friendship will never change."

"China will always support Myanmar in pursuing the development path that suits its national conditions, in upholding sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and in realizing Myanmar's peace and national reconciliation," Wei said.

The Chinese military is ready to work with Myanmar's military to enhance pragmatic cooperation, strengthen border management and control, and maintain border stability, he also said.

Soe Win said Myanmar is willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation in various areas with China, safeguard border security and enhance bilateral military ties to a higher level.

While meeting with Adm Luechai Ruddit, Wei said China was ready to deepen the China-Thailand comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership, and support Thailand in its work of holding the rotating chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

"The Chinese military is willing to work with Thai military to deepen practical cooperation and enhance their military ties, Wei said.

The Royal Thai Navy commander called for increased military exchanges at all levels.
