China urges both the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to be patient and stay committed to resolving the DPRK nuclear issue through political dialogue, Chinese Foreign Minister, also State Councilor, Wang Yi said on Friday, adding that China will continue to push for a political solution to help achieve full denuclearization.
Wang made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 13th National People's Congress in Beijing, in response to a question on the breakdown of the second summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi last month.
Wang said the U.S. and the DPRK should not be prisoners of history. The two should break the circle of mutual mistrust, calling on both parties to continue with dialogue.
The foreign minister also acknowledged the efforts by the two sides. He said the Hanoi summit was an important step and is a positive development, which must be applauded.
Wang said the two sides should make a roadmap and take steps to reach denuclearization.
Wang reiterated that China is always committed to denuclearization, political dialogue and peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
Wang said China has been working on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula for over 20 years and its role cannot be replaced. China is willing to work along with other parties to reach the goal, he added.
