UNITED NATIONS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese UN envoy on Tuesday called for stronger international and regional cooperations to fight terrorism and organized crime.

Speaking at a Security Council open debate on threats to international peace and security, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ma Zhaoxu said that international terrorism, transnational organized crime and other global security issues are growing increasingly connected and diversified.

The international community must strengthen results-based cooperation, exchange information, share success stories, and take concerted actions, so as to effectively fight terrorism and organized crime, and jointly maintain international peace and security, he said.

"Any weakness of a single country would trigger a large influx of external risks, forming a sinkhole that collects risks and a safe haven for terrorists and perpetrators of organized crime," Ma added.

The Chinese envoy called on the international community to actively support regional and sub-regional organizations in playing important roles and conducting effective regional cooperation. "It is imperative to strengthen international and regional cooperation to form a synergy so as to effectively fight terrorism and organized crime."
