Militants' attack kills 5 pro-gov't militia in northern Afghan province

TALUQAN, Afghanistan, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Militants' attack on government's interests claimed the lives of five pro-government militiamen in Dasht-e-Qala district of the northern Takhar province on Tuesday, police spokesman in the restive province Abdul Khalil Asir said Wednesday.

According to the official, the Taliban insurgents targeted security personnel in Nawabad area of Dasht-e-Qala district on Tuesday evening, killing five pro-government militiamen including their commander Hakim Arab.

The attacking militants had also suffered casualties, the official asserted, but he could not give an exact figure.

Taliban militants who have intensified activities in the relatively violent Takhar province haven't commented.
