PLA Y-20 strategic cargo planes debut in fight against novel coronavirus outbreak

Military medics carrying medications prepare to undertake the tasks of treating patients that have been diagnosed and confirmed in the Wuhan Taikang Tongji Hospital and the Guanggu Branch of Hubei Maternal and Child Health Hospital upon their arrival in Wuhan on the morning of February 13, 2020. A total of 11 transport aircraft attached to the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, including Y-20s, Il-76s and Y-9s, taxi down the runway after arriving at Wuhan's Tianhe International Airport on the morning of February 13, from multiple locations across China, carrying military medical teams and tons of medical supplies. This was the first time for China's domestically developed large transport aircraft Y-20 to take part in military operations other than war (MOOTW). It was also the first time for the PLA Air Force to send large and medium active-duty transport aircraft to carry out urgent air transport tasks on a large scale.
