China warned Taiwan separatists to stop taking advantage of the situation in Hong Kong to undermine the city's prosperity and stability, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said on Thursday.

Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen and her pro-secession Democratic Progressive Party have recently smeared the decision on national security legislation for Hong Kong, proposed to "grant asylum" to Hong Kong separatists, and attack the "one country, two systems" to further their own goal of separating the country, Ma said in a statement.

"Hong Kong's prosperity and stability cannot be undermined by any secessionist forces," Ma said. "We warn the DPP to stop taking advantage of the situation and twisting the truth. Granting the dark and violent forces (in Hong Kong) to Taiwan will only smash their own feet with lifting rock."

Separatist forces in Hong Kong and Taiwan have been colluding for some time, and their actions have been deemed outrageous and have been staunchly opposed by Chinese people across the world, Ma said.

"The DPP have twisted facts, and ferociously attacked and smeared the decision by the National People's Congress," Ma said. "This again has exposed its political manipulation to control the situation in Hong Kong, attack 'one country, two systems', and its insidious design to achieve Taiwan secession."

"These actions have seriously undermined the interests and well-being of people from Hong Kong and Taiwan," he added.

Ma said the series of illegal acts by violent radicals should be punished by law.

"We stop and punish all criminal activities against national security in accordance with the law," he said.

"This will better protect the safety of life and property, as well as basic rights and freedom of the Hong Kong people, thus ensure the 'one country, two systems' is implemented properly."
