Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed multilateralism is the correct path and called for strengthening global governance when giving a speech at Tsinghua University in Beijing, on Saturday.

Wang said: "We are determined to contribute more stability and solutions to an increasingly volatile world. We also hope to inject more positive energy into the global economy."

This is among the key messages the Chinese foreign minister has sent out in the Global Advisory Board Meeting, held by the School of Public Policy and Management, which gathers experts from home and abroad to discuss major political issues in the globe.

This year's topic focuses on public management during and after the pandemic.

In his speech, Wang criticized the rise of protectionism and unilateralism when the world is facing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He adds, "China has braved the challenges of the pandemic. The country has submitted a Chinese report to the world. We hope to send confidence and share hope with other countries."

According to Wang, China has sent 36 medical teams to 34 countries providing support to more than 150 countries and international organizations.

Human society is a community of shared future, said Wang, reiterating cooperation and multilateralism are the correct path, and cementing global governance is the trend of the times.

Wang called on the global community to discard ideological bias and build a global governance system under the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.

He also called for joint efforts in resisting unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction to defend international justice and order.

Speaking of China's foreign policy, the foreign minister said China remains committed to peaceful development and win-win cooperation.

China opposes protectionism in any form and will continue to support the multilateral trade system with WTO as its core, Wang vowed, adding the country will stick to its opening-up policy.

China is ready to safeguard world peace and contribute to common development at the time when multilateralism and cooperation are needed more than ever, said Wang.
