China has sanctioned four individuals working for U.S. organizations over their behavior on issues related to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Monday.

They are John Knaus, senior director for Asia at the National Endowment for Democracy, Manpreet Singh Anand, National Democratic Institute (NDI) Asian affairs senior director, Crystal Rosario, regional director for NDI's engagement in Hong Kong, and Kelvin Sit Tak-O, NDI program manager in Hong Kong.

In the briefing, Hua condemned the gross interference by the U.S. in Hong Kong affairs, stressing it has severely violated international law and the basic norms of international relations. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns U.S. meddling in China's internal affairs, she added.

In August, China hit 11 U.S. officials with "egregious records on Hong Kong affairs" with sanctions.

This month, the United States said it was imposing sanctions on four more officials from the Chinese central government and the HKSAR government.
