UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the Panel of Experts assisting the Sudan Sanctions Committee until March 12, 2022.

In Resolution 2562, the UNSC requests the Panel of Experts to provide updates every three months to the Sudan Sanctions Committee, or the 1591 Sudan Sanctions Committee, and expresses its intention to review the mandate and take appropriate action regarding the further extension of the mandate no later than Feb. 12, 2022.

The council last renewed the mandate of the Panel of Experts through Resolution 2508 of Feb. 11, 2020. That resolution signaled the council's intention to regularly review the sanctions measures in light of the evolving situation in Sudan.

The panel was established by UNSC Resolution 1591 of March 2005. Its mandate is, among others, to monitor the arms embargo on Darfur.

Following the adoption of Resolution 2508, China said regular review of the sanctions regime was necessary. Along with Russia, it advocated the development of a roadmap towards lifting sanctions measures.
