August 1965, PLAAF was ordered to dispatch the first batch of anti-aircraft artillery troops to Vietnam, where they fought against massive attacks by American troops. The war lasted for three years and seven months, where the troops made great contributions to the national liberation of Vietnam by shooting down 597 American planes and damaging 479, with their own casualties at 280 deaths and 1,166 wounded.
