BEIJING, Aug. 8 -- On August 6, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) continued its joint combat exercises and training as scheduled in the waters and airspace around Taiwan Island. During the exercises, a frigate carried out strikes at mock maritime targets and comprehensive attack and defense drills. Several fighter jets of the naval aviation troops took off in an emergency to launch a coordinated offensive with the surface forces. A coast missile regiment kept tracking and launching simulated assaults on targets at sea.
