Chinese hospital ship Auspicious Ark brings medical care to Mauritania

NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania, Sept. 20 -- The Chinese PLA Navy's hospital ship Auspicious Ark, which is carrying out Mission Harmony 2026, docked at the Port of Nouakchott to provide medical services to the local residents.

On September 16, the first day of medical services, a local woman with a high-risk pregnancy developed a medical emergency and sought urgent assistance from the hospital ship. Under the concerted efforts of the medical team, the first "Auspicious baby" since the ship's commissioning was born aboard the Chinese PLA Navy's hospital ship Auspicious Ark.

On the evening the "Auspicious baby" was born, the hospital ship's ophthalmology team also completed the first cataract surgery of its visit to Mauritania.

Since its arrival in Mauritania under Mission Harmony 2026, the hospital ship Auspicious Ark has handled a record single-day high of more than 1,600 patient visits. The ship will continue to provide local residents with high-quality medical services.
