Ninety years after the epic 12,500-kilometer march of the Red Army culminated in victory, the enduring spirit of the Long March continues to inspire China's modernization today and offers valuable experience to the world, said international experts.

"As President Xi Jinping has said, the revolutionary victory of the Long March from 1934 to 1936 belongs to the correct leadership of the Communist Party of China, the heroic Chinese Red Army and the Chinese people. Their victory still echoes around the world 90 years later," Alex Gordon, general secretary of the Communist Party of Britain, told China Daily.

He made the comments as China commemorated the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March on Thursday in Beijing. President Xi called for new achievements "on the new Long March" to advance the country's modernization and national rejuvenation drive, when addressing a gathering held to mark the anniversary.

"Only by remembering history can we create a brighter future," said Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

The Long March is a remarkable revolutionary feat achieved under the leadership of the CPC. The Party-led Red Army soldiers marched 12,500 kilometers and crossed raging rivers, snow-covered mountains and treacherous grasslands to break through the encirclement of Kuomintang forces, laying the foundation for the eventual victory of the Chinese revolution.

"This earth-shattering revolutionary feat holds great significance in the history of our Party, country and military, and has a profound impact on our path toward the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," Xi said.

Bernard Momanyi, editorial director of Capital FM, a Kenyan broadcaster, said, "President Xi's speech reminds us that the strength of a nation is built not only through economic progress, but also through resilience, unity and a shared sense of purpose."

Momanyi told China Daily that the emphasis on resilience, self-reliance, unity and people-centered development also resonates with African countries.

The Long March is a pivotal and strategic endeavor that set the stage for future leadership and China's modernization efforts, said Danny Wong Tze Ken, professor of history at the Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

For example, the Zunyi Meeting, a CPC gathering held during the Long March in Guizhou province in 1935, ushered in a new way of thinking that prioritizes localized, pragmatic problem-solving rather than relying on external models, which remains core to China's governance today, Wong added.

Abdulaziz Alshaabani, a researcher at the Al Riyadh Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Saudi Arabia, said the Long March spirit has long transcended China's historical context, embodying valuable wisdom that resonates deeply with developing countries and conflict-affected societies.
