BEIJING, April 2 -- The engineering contingent assigned to the 16th Chinese Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) started the task of repairing the supply route connecting Tonj to Romich in recent days.

This supply route is a vital transport line in South Sudan, stretching 112 kilometers and connecting multiple counties, towns and villages. The road conditions along the entire route are substandard, causing considerable inconvenience to the local production and daily life.

Upon receiving the task, the contingent deployed 41 troops and 23 vehicles of various types to carry out subgrade strengthening, road flattening, drainage system rehabilitation, roadblock clearance, and other work on the supply route.

Since its deployment to the mission area, the contingent has completed more than 30 engineering support tasks including the construction of the Wau airport and water station, as well as camp infrastructure.
