WAU, South Sudan, May 8 -- The 16th Chinese Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) successfully completed the rehabilitation of the main supply route from Tonj to Romich.
Stretching 112 kilometers in total, this supply route serves as a vital traffic artery for the local residents' daily travel and material transportation, thus directly mattering the livelihood of people living in areas along the route.
The construction was carried out in strict accordance with UN engineering standards and specifications. The contingent deployed 41 personnel, as well as 23 vehicles and other equipment. Camping outdoors throughout the whole process, the Chinese peacekeepers filled more than 5,000 cubic meters of earth and travelled a cumulative distance of over 2,200 kilometers. They carried out work including subgrade strengthening, road surface leveling, drainage ditch renovation, and roadblock clearance, completing all construction tasks as scheduled.
