Troops conduct emergency relief in quake-hit Guangxi

NANNING, May 18 -- At 00:21 on May18, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Liuzhou City in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with a focal depth of 8 kilometers. Two people were confirmed dead and another one remained missing as of 8:14 am on May 18. Search and rescue operations are still underway.

At 3:40 am of May 18, troops assigned to Liuzhou detachment under the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) Force Guangxi Corps got well prepared and rushed to the quake-stricken area to carry out rescue operations.

The Liuzhou Military Sub-command also dispatched militiamen to help maintain order and set up temporary tents.

As of 9:00 am on May 18, aftershocks continued to occur in the affected area. The Chinese PAP soldiers and militiamen are still racing against time to conduct rescue work and doing their utmost to safeguard the lives and property of the affected people.
